Between Howls are violinist, Ren Howl & guitarist, Nick Howl. The duo's blend of intricate vocal harmonies, thoughtful lyrics and virtuosic instrumental arrangements have drawn in audiences across the country for nearly a decade.

Originally from Duluth, MN and Shell Lake, WI respectively, Ren and Nick met while studying at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. In 2018 they formed One Less Guest. The four-piece rock/fusion outfit performed over 200 shows their first two years together and self-funded the release of their debut album, Monochrome, in April of 2020. The album received national airplay & eventually reached #91 on the North American College & Community Radio charts.

The following summer, the Howl’s and their bandmates relocated to the Los Angeles area, where they would remain for the next three years. The band recorded two more albums, continued to perform extensively across the west-coast and contributed to numerous recordings with other artists both in music and in film.

After One Less Guest’s farewell show in 2024, Nick and Ren moved to Wisconsin. The two now-newlyweds spent a year in the woods of Gordon, WI recording what would become Between Howls debut album. In the spring of 2025 they emerged from hiding with Cabin Fever, and embarked on a two-and-a-half-month cross country tour in support of the record.

Outside of the duo, Ren has worked as a touring violinist for hire. In this capacity, they have performed at Stagecoach Music Festival, were featured on CBS This Morning’s Saturday Sessions, and opened for Leon Bridges during his “The Leon Tour 2025” appearance in Vail, Colorado.

Between Howls are on the road frequently throughout 2026 and are currently in the latter stages of recording their second album.
